Visiting Colorado Mines

One of the most popular mines you can visit today in Colorado is the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Cripple Creek. This mine features a 1,000-foot vertical shaft that goes down to a mine once full of shimmering gold. The mine is named for the first woman to strike a claim in the gold camp. Another popular tourist mine is the Hidee Gold Mine in Central City. Tours at Hidee allows visitors to actually go panning for real gold. You can even keep anything you find. It also doesn’t hurt that the area is close to Central City and it’s famous casinos. Another great place to go for mines is Idaho Springs.

Perhaps the most popular mine in Idaho Springs is Argo Mill and Tunnel. The facility at Argo Mill once represented the most state-of-the-art productions in the country, advancing the ways of extraction at the mouth of the tunnel. Though now their practices are antiquated, it is still fascinating to see how Colorado was leading the world in innovation at the time. Another great spot in Idaho Springs is Phoenix Gold Mine. This has been a working mine in recent years, making is a very unique experience. Visitors can walk through the gold-laden tunnel and hear stories and the past and present.
