Exploring Colorado Mines

The early days of Colorado and much of the west began to grow due to the mining industry. For example, gold discoveries in Colorado began near present day Denver in the 1800s. Prospectors traced placer gold to its source in the mountains west of Denver, then followed the Colorado Mineral Belt in a southwest direction
